CREATING A DESIGN LEGACY INSIDE AND OUT WITH KAITLIN PETERSEN, MARIO NIEVERA AND ELIZA HARRIS | 11AM TO 12PM
From 11AM to 12PM, join Kaitlin Petersen, editor in chief of Business of Home for Creating a Design Legacy Inside and Out, a conversation with renowned landscape designer Mario Nievera and Eliza Harris of Sister Parish Design.
As a child, renowned landscape architect Mario Nievera would fantasize about perfect, unfolding landscapes and luscious, animated gardens. Now, he creates them as a principal at Nievera Williams Design, one of the top landscape architectural firms in the country. Using a colorful palette of unique and varied vegetation, from vibrant flower beds to elegant coconut palms and rustic ivy-covered trellises to framing Ficus trees, Mario uses nature as a tool for design. For Mario, it is imperative that a house be closely connected to its surroundings: with every project, whether bucolic and classical, elegant and refined, or dramatic and fanciful, he endeavors to achieve a seamless integration between interior and exterior spaces.
Eliza Crater Harris is the creative director of Sister Parish Design, the iconic American heritage textile and wallcovering brand founded in 1933 by legendary American interior designer Sister Parish. Following in Sister’s footsteps, Eliza and her mother, CEO Susan Crater, have continued to bring Sister’s ideas, designs and spirit into the world of American design and are proud to continue her legacy. Their mission is to encourage, inspire and educate designers and design enthusiasts alike to create homes that value authenticity, comfort and connection. They are proud to be known for their commitment to historically driven design and truly believe that it is through this lens that great American houses are born.
THE ART OF COLLECTING WITH RACHAEL RUMMEL, PETER DUNHAM AND FLORA SOAMES | 2 to 3PM
From 2 to 3PM, join Rachael Rummel, style and market director of Veranda, for a lively conversation with celebrated interior designers Peter Dunham and Flora Soames on The Art of Collecting.
Peter Dunham was raised in France and educated in England at Stowe. He read modern languages at Exeter College, and business administration at the American University in Paris. Peter moved to Los Angeles in 1998 and immediately started his interior design company. In 2003, he launched his eponymous fabric and wallpaper collection which is now sold through 16 showrooms worldwide. Peter is always on the hunt for inspiration for new textiles and wallpapers, traveling the world every year and finding ideas abroad as well as in his own backyard. His travels as a young man to India, European upbringing, and California lifestyle inform his fabrics and wallpaper, creating a collection that celebrates adventure, history, color, pattern, and a relaxed sophistication.
Flora Soames set up her design consultancy business in 2009. One of House and Garden’s Top 100, her discerning eye and instinct for channeling both old and new has been formed through a lifetime love of collecting furniture, textiles and accessories. With a background in both the furniture and art worlds, Flora’s design philosophy is based on retaining the essence of a building or interior whilst adapting the design in a way that is comfortable, stylish and practical. Her modern yet eclectic approach is key to translating and responding to each client’s needs with an emphasis on service, quality, craftsmanship and longevity.
